Product Name
Bridge Angle Steel (Heavy-Duty L-Section for Bridgework)
Introduction
Bridge Angle Steel are robust equal- or unequal-leg L-shaped steel members designed specifically for bridge applications. Compared with general-purpose angles, bridge angles are specified with thicker legs, tighter tolerances, fatigue-conscious detailing and durable corrosion protection so they can serve as bracing, splice plates, stringer attachments, guardrail supports, stiffeners and secondary framing in pedestrian, highway and railway bridges.
Typical Materials & Grades
Structural carbon and HSLA steels: S355 / Q345 / A572 Gr.50 (common choices).
Bridge and marine grades: A709 / AH36 / DH36 or equivalent where classification, toughness or marine resistance is required.
Weathering steel (Corten) or stainless (304/316) for special environments.
Standard supply backed by Mill Test Certificates (MTC).
Typical Geometry & Ranges
Leg lengths (a × b): 40 mm – 400 mm (equal or unequal).
Thickness (t): 6 mm – 40 mm (heavy-duty ranges for bridge use).
Lengths: Standard stock 6 m / 12 m; cut-to-length, spliced or pre-assembled kits for long runs.
Mass per metre: varies by size (e.g., 100×100×10 mm ≈ 78.5 kg/m - calculate with side²×0.00785).
Tolerances: contractor/bridge-spec tolerances; tighter dimensional control available for critical nodes.
Key Features & Advantages
Fatigue-conscious detailing: rounded edges, controlled hole radii and smooth weld transitions reduce stress concentrations under cyclic traffic and wind loads.
High local bearing area: wide or unequal legs provide generous plate bearing area for bolted splice plates and gussets.
Robust connection faces: flat, thick legs simplify bolt patterns, splice fabrication and welding of stiffeners.
Durable protection: hot-dip galvanizing, duplex (zinc + paint) systems or marine-grade coatings prolong life in harsh exposures.
Fabrication flexibility: rolled stock or fabricated (plate-welded) angles available to meet non-standard sizes or higher thicknesses.
Typical Bridge Applications
Bracing angles in towers and trusses.
Gusset plates, splice plates and connection angles for main girders.
Deck-edge supports, parapet and guardrail mountings.
Stiffening angles around web openings and service cutouts.
Retrofit strengthening plates and temporary works (falsework) components.
Fabrication & Value-Added Services
Pre-drilling / CNC punching: match-drilled bolt patterns and splice hole kits for rapid field erection.
Notching & coping: accurate copes for bolted/welded connections and splice fit-up.
Welded assemblies: pre-welded gussets, doublers and reinforced nodes.
Cut-to-length & cambering: factory camber or pre-formed angles for special geometries.
Surface treatment: shot-blast + primer, hot-dip galvanize, epoxy/PU topcoats, or duplex systems per spec.
Kitting & sequencing: labelled erection packs (by span/bay) with bolts, washers and splice plates.
Quality Assurance & Testing
Material certification: MTCs with chemical & mechanical test reports.
Welding controls: WPS/PQR, welder qualification and weld records for any shop welds.
NDT: MT/UT/RT available for critical welds or when required by spec.
Dimensional checks: leg length, squareness, hole position, straightness and flatness inspection.
Coating inspection: film thickness, adhesion, salt-spray or holiday testing as required.
Packaging & Delivery
Bundling: strapped bundles with timber/polymer spacers to avoid abrasion.
Protection: end/corner guards, VCI film or temporary oil for storage; crating for painted or precision packs.
Marking: part ID, bay/position number, heat no. and orientation on each piece.
Logistics: pieces sized to transport/crane limits; spliced deliveries and on-site erection kits available.
Ordering Information - What We Need
To provide an accurate proposal and fabrication drawing, please supply:
Angle size (a × b × t) or required section properties (moment/axial capacity).
Intended function in bridge (brace, splice, gusset, deck edge, stiffener).
Material grade and any toughness/low-temperature requirements.
Bolt size/pattern or splice details, and whether holes should be shop-drilled.
Surface protection preference (galvanize, paint, duplex) and any class/owner coating spec.
Quantity, lengths, transport/crane limits and desired lead time.
Any inspection/witness requirements (third-party or class society).
Why Choose Our Bridge Angle Steel?
Our bridge angles are specified and fabricated with fatigue-aware detailing, shop-prepared bolt patterns, and industry-standard corrosion protection to minimize field work and maximize in-service life. Send your member details or typical connection drawing and we'll recommend rolled vs fabricated options, provide section properties, a shop drawing and a competitive quote.
